新渡戸稲造の至言から（4月19日）

 

4月19日

「予定通りはかどることなくとも、一度定めたる目的は容易に変うべきものにあらず。百難を冒してもやりとおす気前あれば、気長く遠まわりも厭うべからず。」（新渡戸稲造『一日一言』）

 

・初心貫徹。

・報われない努力はあっても、無駄になる努力はない。

・ゲーテの‛Haste not Rest not' （急ぐなかれ、休むなかれ）をもじって、新渡戸は、教え子の森本厚吉に、「Haste not Rest more(急ぐな、もっと休め)」という言葉を贈った。森本の多忙なのを見ていて、自分がかつて働きすぎて身体をこわしたことと重ね合わせた。（藤井茂・長本裕子著『すべての日本人へ　新渡戸稲造の至言』118頁参照）
